This Introductory Web Development course is designed for beginners who are interested in learning basic code and how to design websites from the ground up. The class focuses on two essential front-end technologies: HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

Students will start by learning the structure and purpose of HTML, including how to create web pages using elements such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images, and forms. They’ll gain hands-on experience in writing clean, semantic HTML code to build the foundation of a website.

Next, students will explore CSS, which is used to control the appearance and layout of web pages. Topics include styling text, colors, backgrounds, borders, spacing, and positioning. Students will also learn how to use CSS for responsive design, ensuring websites look great on both desktop and mobile devices.

Additionally, this course is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills for effectively using a computer’s file management system. Exploring and implementing skills which are crucial for everyday tasks and computer literacy using File Explorer to properly navigate the file system hierarchy, understanding drives, folders, and files, and learning how to navigate through them.

No prior coding experience is required — just curiosity and creativity!

This course will be held at Peotone High School, room 226. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch. Breaks will be provided throughout the workshop.
