Minutes

Board Members Present – Shaun Ziems, Barb Sim, Aimee Saari, Lindsay Schwiesow

Board Members absent – Jackie VanOvermeiren

Staff Present – Kelly LaMore, Jeff Eschbach

The meeting was called to order by President Sim at 6:30 p.m. Roll call was taken. Quorum was present.

Motion to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2024 board meeting by Ziems, second by Schwiesow. Roll call vote Ziems – yes, Saari – yes, Schwiesow – yes, Sim – present.   Motion carried 3/0.

Public Comment –  None

Reports –

Financial Report – Jen and President Sim are continuing to work with the new online system.

Compliance/Legal – President Sim and Kelly attended the IAPD Legal Symposium in November.

Maintenance Report – Jeff reported on end of season maintenance including closing the bathrooms. Fields one and two have received new material, field 7 could use some. Six of the nine tee pads are complete on the disc golf course. Jeff was asked to get costs for a solar light by the pond.

Managers Report – Kelly reported on the completion of the Efficiency Report, fall program including Hot Shots Basketball and the Zombie 5k & Walk.  Kelly completed her Notary Public training and attended the IAPD Legal Symposium.  Winter programs start after Thanksgiving and the flyers should be out soon.  The Peotone School District has asked to use the Baseball and Softball fields for the 2025 season.

 Accounts Payable and Payroll –.

Motion to approve bills and payroll by Ziems, second by Saari.

Roll call vote – Ziems– yes, Saari – yes, Schwiesow – yes, Sim – yes.   Motion carried, 4/0.

 Old Business –

1. New Programs – Tabled
2. Capital Improvements – Tabled
3. Authorize repairs/upgrades to park facilities – Discussion held on sound proofing for the main room to help reduce echo. Kelly presented an option and is waiting on samples. President Sim asked for measurements on additional walls.
4. Authorize repairs/upgrades to park equipment – Tabled
5. Park Committee – Commissioner Saari reported on the efforts of the committee in regards to the referendum election. Discussion was held on the results of the referendum and the role of the committee moving forward.
6. IAPD/IPRA Conference – Discussion was held on the upcoming conference and that early bird registration ends on December 13^th. Commissioners should let Kelly know if they would like to attend.

Motion to approve up to $5,000 for conference registration and expenses by Sim, Second by Ziems. Roll call vote, Sim – yes, Ziems – yes, Schwiesow – yes, Saari – yes. Motion carried 4/0.

New Business –

1. 2024 Tax Levy Ordinance – Discussion was held on the 2024 Tax Levy amount whether or not to exceed the 4.99%. It was decided not to this year.

Correspondence/Communications/Petitions – None

Commissioner Remarks – Commissioner Schwiesow asked about treating the Duckweed in the pond.  Discussion was held on when it should be done.  Jeff will keep an eye on it.

President Sim is working on a wrap up article for the newspaper after the referendum defeat.

Commissioner Schwiesow heard really good things about the zombie run and the night hike from participants.
