Minutes

Board Members Present – Shaun Ziems, Barb Sim, Aimee Saari, Lindsay Schwiesow

Board Members absent – Jackie VanOvermeiren

Staff Present – Kelly LaMore, Jeff Eschbach

The meeting was called to order by President Sim at 6:30 p.m. Roll call was taken. Quorum was present.

Motion to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2024 board meeting by Ziems, second by Schwiesow. Roll call vote Ziems – yes, Saari – yes, Schwiesow – yes, Sim – present.   Motion carried 3/0.

Public Comment –  George Macias and Melissa Matthuis from the Blue Demons Football Association thanked the park district for the use of the kitchen during playoff weekend.  The Association has new board members and they want a good working relationship with the park district.  Kelly will begin working with them in the spring.

Reports –

Financial Report – Financials are available for review.

Compliance/Legal – Nothing at this time.

Maintenance Report – Jeff reported on preparations for fall and winter.  He has been working on paths and needs some limestone.  The disc golf group has about 95% of the money needed for the concrete pads.  Once the funds are complete, they will start installation.  The board agreed for Jeff to flex his schedule to work on Saturdays for installation.

Managers Report – Kelly reported on the wrap up of several summer programs and upcoming fall programs.  Registration has been slow, but steady.  Soccer is almost done for the season and Peotone residents have liked practicing in town. Hot Shots basketball starts this weekend and has 35 kids. Freedom of Information has been updated.

 Accounts Payable and Payroll –.

Motion to approve bills and payroll by VanOvermeiren, second by Saari.

Roll call vote – Ziems– yes, Saari – yes, VanOvermeiren – yes, Schwiesow – yes.   Motion carried, 4/0.

 Old Business –

1. New Programs – Kelly reported on the activities for Christmas in the Village and lighted parade on Saturday, December 14.
2. Motion to approve up to $700 for the Christmas in the Village and lighted parade by VanOvermeiren, seconded by Saari.  Roll call vote, VanOvermeiren – yes, Saari – yes, Schwiesow – yes, Ziems – yes.  Motion carried 4/0.Capital Improvements – Nothing
3. Authorize repairs/upgrades to park facilities – Discussion held on the need for field mix for Field 1 and some limestone for the paths. To be split with the school district and possibly PBSA.
4. Motion to approve spending up to $2,000 for field mix and limestone by Schwiesow, seconded by VanOvermeiren.  Schwiesow – yes, VanOvermeiren – yes, Saari – yes, Ziems – yes. Motion carried 4/0.
5. Authorize repairs/upgrades to park equipment – TabledThe IAPD Legal Symposium is coming up in November, Kelly and Barb would like to attend. Motion to approve $500 for attendance at the IAPD Legal Symposium by Schwiesow, seconded by Saari.
6. Commissioner Saari commented on the Community Group. She has been working to include people from each neighborhood.  They need brochures, handouts, signs, etc. to give out to support the referendum.

New Business –

1. IAPD/IPRA Conference – Vice President Ziems commented that registration is open for the conference. Let us know at the November meeting if you are interested in attending so we can get registered.

Correspondence/Communications/Petitions – None

Commissioner Remarks – Commissioner Schwiesow commented that the park looks really good.  It was great seeing the park full this summer at programs and events.  It was good to have the Market in the Park here.

Commissioner VanOvermeiren reiterated the “Thank You” from the Blue Demons and their desire to work together in the future.
